Year 5

Children in Year 5 will have the opportunity to learn a variety of Topics throughout the year.

To enhance their learning, children will be able to experience –

Tudor Day – As a part of their first topic, ‘Off with her head!’, the children have the opportunity to spend the day, at school, dressed as a Tudor, and to participate in a range of events to help consolidate and extend the learning covered in class.

Fundraising event – The topic called ‘Blood Heart, begins with the dissection of a pig’s heart – this is one of the year group’s favourite activities – and truly one they never forget! The topic is completed with the year 5 children organising, and participating in, a fundraising event that the whole school joins in with. Proceeds raised go to the British Heart Foundation.

Mexican Day – The topic, ‘Hola Mexico!’, is a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn traditional Mariachi dances, the significance of the ‘Day of the Dead’ festival and more about the history and geography of Mexico. This culminates in a ‘Mexican Day’, in school, where they can perform to each other and celebrate ‘Mexican’ style!

Year 6

Children in Year 6 will have the opportunity to learn a variety of Topics throughout the year.

To enhance their learning, children will be able to experience –

Art Gallery visit – The first topic, ‘Gallery Rebels’, gives the children the opportunity to experience an art gallery, studying and commenting on the huge variety of styles and work that is displayed. The Tate Modern, in London, houses many collections of art, which the children can visit, both in person and virtually, to get the full experience.

Web designer visit – The topic, ‘Tomorrow’s World’, begins with the children learning about, and interviewing, a Web designer from the local community. They hear about what the job entails and how a Web designer works.

WW2 Evacuation Day – The topic, ‘A Child’s War’, allows the children to learn about WW2 and its significance for London, as well as the whole country. Children have the opportunity to come to school dressed as an evacuee and experience a little of what it must have been like to have been sent away from their families.
