September 2021 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

I can’t believe that two weeks of the new term have passed already, time has flown by! The children have settled into their new routine and have adjusted well to school life once more. We have been particularly impressed with our new Year 3 pupils who, despite the transition from the Infant school, appear confident and happy in their new surroundings – well done! We would like to welcome all our new families.  We hope that you will be very happy during your time with us. In the meantime, if there is anything that we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

New arrival and departure procedures

Just a reminder that all children are allowed to arrive at school from 8.30am, entering the premises either via the front gate in Salisbury Road or the back gate in Brentwood Road. Arriving at school early, allows the children time to put away their things and complete some early morning work before lessons begin.

Registration for Y5 and Y6 takes place at 8:45am and registration for Y3 and Y4 is at 8:50amAny children arriving into their classroom after their registration time will be given a late mark. Please therefore ensure your child arrives in plenty of time to get to their classroom for registration.

Y5 & Y6 will finish school at 3.05pm and Y3 & Y4 will finish at 3.15pm. All children will be dismissed from the main playground. If collecting your child, we kindly ask that you stand at the back of the playground rather than down the side. This allows teachers to bring the children out safely and quickly.

Sensory Garden

If you use the entrance on Salisbury Road, you may have seen our new sensory garden. The garden was completed over the summer holidays and is a lovely new addition to our school. It is a space where children and staff can enjoy a bit of quiet time away from the classroom or main playground. Last week all pupils had the opportunity to visit and discover all it has to offer. Judging by the children’s reactions, the project is a big success! We look forward to using the new area moving forward.

Covid 19

Just a reminder that if your child complains of feeling unwell or demonstrates any Covid symptoms, please use lateral flow tests to ensure that they are not Covid positive before sending them to school. If you or your child tests positive on a lateral flow test, you should organise a PCR test to confirm the diagnosis and notify the school as soon as possible. If a member of your household tests positive, please get in touch with the school to seek further advice. Thank you for your co-operation.

Breakfast Club

We are pleased to announce that we continue to offer breakfast club provision. We offer one club for Years 5 & 6 and one club for Years 3 & 4 from 7:45am. At the moment we have vacancies in both groups. If you are interested in a place, please contact the school office for more information.

Contact Information

Please ensure that the contact information that we hold is up to date, including all contact numbers and email addresses. It is important that we are able to communicate information to you, especially in case of emergency. If you have recently changed your mobile number or e-mail address please e-mail office@shj.havering.sch.uk to update your details.

Homework

By now, all pupils should have received their Google Classroom log in details. We ask that all homework is submitted online. It is expected that pupils complete homework tasks each week.

If your child experiences difficulty logging on, please contact the school and a member of the team will return your call and provide you with some assistance.

If your child does not have access to a laptop or tablet, please get in touch with us. We have a limited number of laptops in school which can be loaned to families.

School Blog

If you haven’t already had a look at our school blog since returning to school, please do take some time to check it out. Each week staff will put up new posts with photos of the children taking part in different lessons and activities. It is a great way to keep in touch with what is happening in school. You can get access to our school blog via our website by clicking on “useful links”.

Questions or Concerns

Throughout the year, if you have any questions or concerns, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible. We will work hard to resolve any problems as quickly as we can. Our team are here to help and your child’s happiness and well-being are important to us.

We look forward to a successful year.

With all good wishes,

 Mrs M Shipton
