Exceptional achievements of Squirrels Heath Junior School recognised by the Mayor of London

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has celebrated the exceptional performance of Squirrels Heath Junior School in Havering as part of his Schools for Success programme.

The school has been honoured for its commitment to reducing educational inequality and attaining exceptional results for children previously struggling academically.

Squirrels Heath Junior School has been awarded a certificate for supporting children to make excellent progress to meet and/or exceed expectations by the end of primary school. The school champions all children, and has worked exceptionally hard to enable children reach the best of their abilities.

Created in 2017, the Schools for Success programme was formed to enhance the support given to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programme acknowledges primary and secondary schools that prioritise progress for their lowest attaining pupils, are excelling in their performance overall and sharing their work with other schools through a series of webinars made available to all London schools.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’d like to congratulate the staff of Squirrels Heath Junior School for their exceptional work. We created Schools for Success to recognise the positive impact that teachers, headteachers, teaching assistants, support staff and governors are making every day to support students and reduce inequalities, and this school’s commitment to being supportive and inclusive sets a great example. Covid-19 has presented unforeseen challenges across our city but Squirrels Heath Junior School has done a fantastic job in maintaining excellence during a very difficult time. Working together we can make sure that no young Londoner is left behind”

Mrs Aoife Bush , Assistant Headteacher, said: We are pleased to announce that Squirrels Heath Junior School has been awarded the Mayor of London’s School for Success for 2019-2020. This award has been presented in recognition of the success the school has in supporting children to make exceptional progress in their learning. Approximately six per cent of London schools are eligible to be members of the Schools for Success programme​.  At Squirrels Heath Junior School, we work extremely hard to understand the needs of all children in our school, and use the wealth of experience of our staff to support children at all stages in their learning. Through high quality teaching, a practical, hands-on approach to learning and through the investment in technology to support learning both in school and at home, we strive to ensure that children at Squirrels Heath Junior School make excellent progress and that they finish primary school achieving above and significantly above national expectations.  We are proud to be acknowledged for our efforts, and will continue to build upon the successes we have had.
