March 2022 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

We come to the end of another busy term in school. The children have enjoyed a variety of different experiences and we have been really impressed with the progress they have made since the start of the school year, particularly with their knowledge and understanding of the topics being studied.

We would also like to thank all parents and carers for your support. Please continue to encourage pupils to practice their multiplication tables and ensure that they keep up with their reading over the holidays.

Miss Conboy

It is with regret that I have to inform you that Miss Conboy will be leaving us at the end of this half term.  On behalf of the school community, I would like to thank her for her service to the school and wish her well in her future endeavours.

Squirrels Book Week & Readathon 2022

Earlier this term, we had a very successful 'Book Week'. The children enjoyed author visits, drama workshops and of course 'World Book Day', where many came to school dressed as their favourite character - it was a great week!

During this time, all the children took part in our school Readathon too. We are delighted to announce that this year’s Readathon raised £1670.62. The money raised will be going towards creating a brand new library for our children. Thank you to everyone that donated and a big thank you to you all for supporting your children with their reading.

Parent surveys

Thank you to those of you who completed our recent parent survey. We are pleased to report that 97% of parents said that their child is happy at school, 100% reported that their child feels safe and 98% felt that the school promoted good behaviour. Many of you also took the time to write some lovely comments about the school and staff. Thank you for passing on these comments -  it means a lot to us to know that what we do makes a positive difference to young people and their families.

Facebook

We are pleased to announce that we now have a facebook page. Please search squirrels heath junior school – havering to follow our page (please ensure you remember the hyphen havering for the junior school page). We will update regularly with news about the school and a link to our blog will be uploaded on Friday evenings. This can also be accessed via our website by clicking on the ‘Useful Links’ tab on the left hand side of the Home Page.

Clubs

The next set of after school clubs will start after the Easter Holidays. If your child has been allocated a space and then decides that they do not want to attend or is unable to attend for any reason please let the school office know as soon as possible. If your child was unsuccessful in gaining a place in a club this half term and was placed on the waiting list you will be contacted to confirm their place for next half term. As most of our clubs are oversubscribed could we please request that you only sign your child up for a club that you are sure they wish to attend.

Website / School App

We would like to remind parents that all the information regarding our school, including the calendar, can be viewed on our website www.shj.havering.sch.uk and in addition we also have our school App which can be downloaded.

As you are no doubt aware, Covid cases continue to remain high. Therefore, we kindly ask that you let us know if your child has tested positive for Covid by calling or emailing the school office.

On behalf of the staff and governors at Squirrels Heath Junior School, I would like to wish you all a Happy Easter Holiday. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 19th April.
