January 2023 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Staff Farewell

Unfortunately, Mr Nick Herring, our Assistant School Keeper, will be leaving us at the end of the week. Mr Herring has been an employee at the school for over 5 years and has worked across both the Infant and Junior School. We thank Mr Herring for his service and wish him well in his future endeavours.

We hope to appoint a new member of staff to this role shortly.

Havering Music School Quartet

On Friday 3rd February, the Havering Music School Quartet will be in school to perform a concert for both phases. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to hear live music and to learn about different musical instruments. We hope that all pupils enjoy the experience and that some may be inspired to learn to play a musical instrument themselves.

Gardening Club

Pupils in our school gardening club have been busy the last few weeks planting seeds and bulbs around the site as well as indoors. They are keeping a video diary of their sessions which will be posted on the school blog so that other pupils and adults can follow the progress of the plants in our garden. Please do have a look in the coming weeks to see how they are getting on. Later in the school year, we will be inviting parents to come into school to meet with members of our gardening club and find out about the delicious produce that we grow on site.

Gold Level Award for Active and Safer Travel

We are really pleased to announce that the school has been awarded a gold level accreditation in recognition for active and safer travel initiatives. We would like to thank all our families and pupils who walk, ride a scooter or ride their bicycle to school. This could be for the whole journey from home to school or, for those who live further afield, part of the journey. Thank you for your efforts in keeping active and helping to limit the use of cars on the road.

New Scooter Park

You may have noticed our new scooter park at the side of the school. This is to accommodate the large number of scooters brought to school each day. It is nice to see the number of children adopting this method of travel. We hope that the new scooter park will help to keep all scooters safely stored.

Christmas Bazaar

Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Bazaar last month. The final totals are in and we are pleased to announce that we raised just over £2300 for the school. This is an incredible amount which will be used to fund some art workshops for the children in the Summer Term.

Website

We would like to remind parents that all the information regarding our school, including the calendar, can be viewed on our website www.shj.havering.sch.uk and in addition we also have our school App which can be downloaded. If you require any further information, regarding these forms of communication, please contact the school office.

Contact Information

Please ensure that you inform the school office as soon as possible if you change your mobile number or e-mail address. It is very important that we are able to communicate information to you, especially in case of emergency.

February Half Term
