February 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parents/Carers,
Covid
You may be aware that Covid restrictions have changed again. We kindly ask that you let us know if your child has tested positive for Covid by calling or emailing the school office.
Parents’ Evening
Just a reminder that our Parents’ Evening video calls will take place on the evenings of 1st & 2nd March. To ensure that you have sufficient time to discuss your child’s progress, please try to be ready a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
Little Princess Trust
Well done to Rosie in 6 Maple who kindly donated her hair to Little Princess Trust and raised an amazing £500 for the charity. It is lovely to hear about young people who go out of their way to help others in need. Rosie, you are a role model to us all!
World Book Day 2022
On Thursday 3rd March the children and staff at Squirrels Heath Junior School will be celebrating World Book Day. There will be a special ‘Book’ themed menu for school dinner that day and as in previous years, we would like to see as many children as possible dressed up as their favourite book character or any book-related costume.
Readathon
Our Readathon at SHJ is well under way! Classes have been submitting their reading totals and it is lovely to see the children excited about reading. Your child would have already brought home a diary/sponsorship. Please encourage your child to read even a few pages and note down how much they have read on their form.
All children will receive a certificate and sticker for competing and there will be prizes awarded to the child who reads the most in each class and across the whole school!
Here at SHJ we are very proud of how many of our children read weekly and we were so pleased to be able to purchase our 'Book Vending Machine' after our previous Readathon in 2020. This year we would like to raise funds to completely redesign our school library. As you can imagine, this includes furniture, specialist equipment, and of course, new books. Therefore, we are asking for you and your friends and family to support us by sponsoring your child to read as much as possible. We would be extremely grateful, whether you sponsor per page, or a total amount, to help us give the children at SHJ this wonderful opportunity!
Our key aim, however, is to get as many children reading as possible. Please help us by encouraging and supporting your child with their reading.
We really do appreciate all your support in making this Readathon a success!
