Curriculum Intent

At Squirrels Heath Juniors, our intent is to provide a curriculum which is creative, memorable and offers cross curricular learning experiences that engage, motivate and inspire children. Units are sequenced in a way that builds upon previous learning whilst ensuring that sufficient skills and knowledge are embedded and deepened to serve as a basis for future learning. Our curriculum is based on the enquiry model which encourages children to ask questions, work collaboratively and reflect upon their work.

The aims of our school curriculum:

  • To encourage children to become independent thinkers who are confident to share their views and opinions.

  • To encourage curiosity and foster a love of learning.

  • To develop resilience, adaptability and perseverance to overcome barriers.

  • To develop strong values, morals and relationships and understand how to

    keep themselves and others safe.

  • To ensure that children understand their global responsibility and the impact

their decisions may have on themselves, others and the environment.

  • To raise the aspirations of children and their families so that they aim high, understanding that goals and ambitions can be realised through hard work and determination.

  • To provide all children with the essential skills, knowledge and understanding

needed to be successful in the next stage of their education.

The curriculum is further enhanced by our commitment to our Core Values (Respect, Passion, Courage, Growth and Togetherness). We work hard to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment where diversity is both respected and valued. We encourage our pupils to work together to solve problems and share information and ideas. Children are supported to overcome barriers so that they are prepared to take risks and learn from their mistakes. Most of all, pupils are encouraged to read widely, develop their vocabulary and to realise that learning does not stop when you get older, it is something you do every day of your life.
