Spelling and Grammar is taught as part of the English curriculum across the school. Children have a discreet grammar and spelling lesson weekly and all children are given a set of spellings to learn each week at home. They usually follow a particular spelling pattern, which are then repeated throughout the school, to ensure children are able to spell these words independently in their writing.
The school has purchased access to an online program called ‘spag.com’. Each child has an individual login and password, and the program is used in school, to assess the child’s learning, as well as sometimes being used for homework. It provides the child with sets of questions, all relating to spelling and grammar, and it gives instant feedback to both pupils and teachers as to how the child is progressing.
